Quench Tooling

  • Precision Tooling is the key to producing quality parts and holding tolerance during the quenching process.
  • Tooling for quench presses comes in two parts: Upper die tooling (including inner ring die, outer ring die, and expander tooling) and table tooling (lower die tooling).
  • When a hot steel part is rapidly cooled during quenching, there is a tendency for the part to want to deform due to temperature imbalances that occur as oil contacts the part. During quenching, the machine applies pressure to the part via the tooling, holding the part in between the tooling to prevent this deformation.
  • Tooling must be custom manufactured for each specific application.
  • Tooling available for bevel gear, spur/helical gear, and bearing race quenching applications.
